FAQ’s
As a privately family owned and operated education and care service, we pride ourselves in ensuring we provide a high-quality service that commits to exceptional care for your children.
At Bowral Street Childcare, we strive to uphold our excellent reputation of being the best childcare centre in the Southern Highlands by putting the needs and wants of your child at the forefront of our daily operations. Our experienced, friendly and caring staff are here to support your child through their everyday learning and any challenges they face.
The daily fee includes care for your children between 7:30am and 6pm, including morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late afternoon snack and sunscreen.
Families are encouraged and welcome to visit our service for a private guided tour.
This allows you to see our learning environments and gain an understanding of what your child will experience at Bowral Street Childcare. It’s a great opportunity to also meet our staff and become familiar with our routine. If you would like to book a tour please make an enquiry on the website or call our office.
As per the Education and Care Services Nation Regulations, the child to education ratio is:
* 0-2 years: 1 educator to 4 children
* 2-3 years: 1 educator to 5 children
* 3-6 years: 1 educator to 10 children
Bowral Street Childcare maintains staff ratios above the required Government standard. This means we can better support your child’s development. It also means that casual Educators are not usually required by the centre, so your child is cared for by the same Educator each day.
Our staff are caring, friendly and professional. They have many years of experience and a great variety of qualifications. AII staff hold a current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Certificate, Working With Children’s Check and continually participate in a variety of professional development opportunities.
Children who are in their last year of care before attending school will participate in a School Readiness Program developed using the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which aims to develop children’s skills in “being, becoming and belonging”.
This provides opportunities for children to develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. The school readiness program is additionally based on the Foundation Level of the Australian Curriculum. This program provides a formal preparation for school entry and develops school readiness skills in reading, writing and mathematics.
Absolutely! We strive in open and effective communication. We use an app called OWNA, this app allows you to view your child’s day, see photos of what they have eaten, rest times, nappy changes and toileting for those children who are toilet training and also communicate to the Educators during the day.
OWNA is a great app that allows families to be a part of their child’s day even when they are not there.
The Start Strong program provides fee relief to families with children in childcare. Families may save up to $2,110 a year for eligible children aged 4 and above and up to $500 a year for children aged 3 in eligible long day cares in 2024.
CHILDCARE SUBSIDY
The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) helps make early learning and childcare more accessible for Australian families. The Child Care Subsidy will be paid directly to your approved child care provider/s to reduce the fees you pay.
To check if you’re eligible login to your MyGov, Centrelink or Express Plus Centrelink account.
How does this work?:
The Child Care Subsidy will be paid directly to childcare providers to be passed on to families as a fee reduction. Families will contribute the difference between the provider fee charged and the subsidised amount. This is known as the families gap fee.
How much will I receive?
3 things that will determine your level of subsidy:
- Combined family income
- Type of approved childcare
- Activity level of your family
You need to meet some requirements to get Child Care Subsidy. The child care subsidy is paid directly to child care providers to reduce the fees you pay. You may be eligible if you or your partner meet all of the following:
- Care for your child at least 2 nights per fortnight, or have 14% care
- Are liable for fees for care provided at an approved child care service
- Meet the residency rules. See further information here
- Your child must also meet immunisation requirements

PARENT COMMUNICATION
All of our children’s learning is documented on our OWNA Digital Software for their parents to view and keep up to date with their education. This is readily available to all parents via the OWNA App, web portal and in our monthly newsletters. We encourage families to contribute to our program regularly through our Educators’ program and daily records, through spontaneous experiences and guest visits, and by offering ideas and suggestions for activities.
